Covered in Leather - Day 42

Leather Craft

Leather Craft Brings Pleasure!

Have you ever smelled new leather? If you have, you will know that there is nothing like a brand new wallet, jacket, or pair of shoes that have been newly crafted! For me, I think of the shops at the annual rodeo held in a small town not too far away. I also think of the leather crafts store down the main street of places like Deadwood or Tombstone! I know not all leather is western wear but I always feel it is likely where it all started.

Leather craft - old leather

Even old leather is beautiful with soft texture and flexibility. I remember my dad having an old leather belt and wallet to match. The smell may have long gone but the feel of the leather was so smooth. I prefer to work with new leather when it comes to making wallets (the easiest craft to make). Old leather can often be used for other projects.

Tools You Will Need

  • Leather Needle and Leather Thread
  • Sharp Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Leather Punch
  • Stitching Pony or Clam
  • Groover, Spacer, and Beveler

These are the recommendations for a beginner. You can spend anywhere from $20 to $1000 on tools for this craft. I only have the beginner set - you can make a lot of projects with just the simple tools.

What to Buy

Here are a couple of links in Amazon for the basic sets:

Leather Craft Basic Stitching Set $20

Until you really get into this craft, you will not need much more than these have to offer.

Projects to Make

Rather than having you follow my directions for making your first project, all you need to do is start with a bag of leather remnants and start creating.

My favorite video is this one:

So what are you waiting for?

Last Word

I am still not finished my project, it is one of those items that will take more than just an hour to put together. If you follow the video, you will be making leather crafts in no time at all!.

Until Tomorrow
